Understanding the product fields in your Precision Systems catalog

There are three different types of products that can be added to your store and each will require slightly different information, to learn more about the different types of products we invite you to check out our article: How to add products in Precision Systems
Category :
The product type is the top level category that a product belongs to. for example 'Clothing' or 'Accessories' or 'Services'.
Used for grouping products to optimize filtering and searching. This can be used to define reports on a certain product group and to define promotions.
The product type can be composed of letters, numbers and symbols.
For example "Clothing", "Accessories" or "Services".
Only one product type can be applied per product.
Name:
This is what your product is called; for example "Graffiti Pants". It will be the name of the product displayed to the cashier on the sales screen.
It will also be displayed on customer materials, such as receipts, and printed on labels.
It is also used for administrative functions, i.e. reports and orders/stock transfers.
The name can contain letters, numbers and symbols in this field, but does not include #, $ or & symbols.
Each product name must be unique from other products.
If your product is a variant, the name will be used to group products with variants in CSV imports. All product variants in the same family MUST have the same name.
Your product description:
When integrating with an e-commerce platform, the description will form the description of your product for the customer.
This field can contain letters, numbers and symbols.
Variant:
Variants allows you to create and sell products that belong to the same family but are offered in variants.
This makes adding a product variant to the sales screen quick and accurate. It also streamlines product management and reporting.
The attribute must define the type of variation in which the product is offered. For example, "color", "size" or "flavor".
A product variant can have up to three individual attributes (using the column "Variant:?" which you can duplicate as many times as necessary, simply replace the "?" in the column heading with the variant in question, e.g. Variant: Color and then add insert, in the rows below the different colors in which your product is declined) as in the example below:
Price:
This is the value in € or other currency, for which a product will be sold.
It offers the possibility to define, modify and maintain the price that your customers will be charged for a product.
The retail price must be entered as a numerical value. Do not include a currency symbol.
VAT:
Corresponds to the tax rate you wish to use for your products.
This is automatically set to your default initially filled tax rate when left blank.
Note that:
The VAT is included in the selling price of the products that you will have filled in the Price field
Brand:
Brand can be used for filtering, searching and reporting.
It must be the name of the brand to which your product belongs.
For example "Adidas."
This can be composed of letters, numbers and symbols.
Supplier:
The supplier name is used when creating purchase orders.
The supplier name is optional, and can be composed of letters, numbers and symbols.
If you have more than one vendor for the product, leave this field blank.
Bar Code:
The SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) code for your product.
One of the biggest advantages for retailers is the ability to use a scannable product barcode (EAN, ISBN, ...) as the SKU, which allows you to scan the barcode on the sales screen to add it to a sale.
The SKU also adds a uniquely identifiable metric to the reports that allows you to access a specific product.
Each product must have a unique SKU. Make sure it contains only letters and numbers. You cannot have spaces or symbols here.
It can be your own existing SKU or an existing barcode number on the product.
If you do not have any existing SKUs, leave this column blank and Precision Systems POS will automatically generate unique SKUs for your products.
